On the basis of the Blood Supply Act, there is only one organization in the Netherlands responsible for safe and efficient collection and delivery of blood, cell and plasma products for the treatment of patients: Sanquin. With over 2.100 committed colleagues and almost 400.000 blood and plasma donors, Sanquin can provide a better life for 100.000 Dutch patients each year. In 2022 Sanquin collected a little over 740.000 voluntary blood and plasma donations.
The organization’s top priority is the health of patients and donors: safety always comes first. The safety and efficiency of the blood transfusion chain from donor to patient is ensured by sophisticated production methods, strict procedures and testing, quality requirements as well as thorough staff training.
In addition to collecting, processing and distributing blood products, Sanquin also:

• conducts high-quality scientific research,
• performs a multitude of diagnostic services
• develops blood group and immune reagents
• provides education and training.

All of the above with a focus on transfusion medicine, hematology, oncology and immunology.
Sanquin is the only blood organization in the world to offer this combination of in-house medical, pharmaceutical and scientific knowledge and expertise.
