EU Legislation Working Group

Created in 2015, the EU Blood Directives WG contributed to the different steps of the revision of the Blood Directive. In 2024, with the publication of the SoHO Regulation, it was renamed EU Legislation WG to reflect its work accompanying the implementation of the Regulation as well as its wider remit monitoring and influencing other EU legislation impacting blood supply and the daily operations of blood establishments.

The EU Legislation WG prepares EBA positions on proposed European policies and legislation, and conveys it to the EU institutions and key stakeholders. In doing so, it represents the views of the European non-profit blood establishments.

Objectives and activities

Key objective for the WG is to develop and propose Executives and Board recommendations for an EBA position on policies and legislation proposed by the European Commission, principally related to the implementation of the SoHO Regulation but also in other related areas such as medical devices, pharmaceutical products, and health data.

This WG also promotes EBA positions by producing information material and maintaining regular contacts with the EU Institutions and other key stakeholders. EBA regularly organises publics events in Brussels to showcase EBA members’ concerns and priorities, as well as foster exchanges with other stakeholders.

The EU Legislation WG meets regularly to exchange on the latest updates from the EU institutions regarding EBA members’ activities, and to draft common positions and analysis of legislative and policy developments.
