Greece

The blood supply system in Greece is a decentralized, hospital-based system.

EKEA (HNBTC) is a public legal entity under the supervision of the Ministery of Health and the competent authority on blood and blood products. There are 4 centers that perform NAT testing. One of the centers is situated in EKEA, while three of them are located in hospital blood banks.

There are 97 hospital blood banks that perform recruitment of donors, blood collection, blood grouping, serology testing, cross matching and transfusion.

Our aim is to centralize the system and integrate all recruitment, collection, testing and distribution in two centers.
