Sweden

The Swedish Blood Alliance (SweBA) was formed in September 2004 as a non- profit organization, recognized by the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SALAR). The organization was accepted by EBA October 2004 as the representative for Sweden. The purpose is to enable collaboration between the blood establishments in all counties and regions in Sweden. The organization will generate and maintain national developments related to the quality and safety of blood. SweBA also contributes to national unity regarding representation in international blood related organizations and to share information. SweBA is an official representative for the Swedish blood establishments and functions as a referral institution in professional and legislative matters related to quality and safety of blood.
Among the national services presently maintained by SweBA we can mention SBS, “Samverkande Blodsystem”, a web based system for safe exchange of blood donor information between IT systems in different blood establishments. SweBA also administers the translation, incorporation and availability of ISBT 128 codes through a web based database.
