The European Blood Alliance (EBA) warmly welcomes the adoption by the European Parliament’s ENVI Committee of the report on the SoHO regulation.
The proposal of the European Commission, published 12 months ago, was a very important basis for the revision of the 20-year-old blood and tissues and cells directives. The amendments introduced by the ENVI Committee build on the Commission text, clarifying certain aspects like compensation and financial neutrality, but also reinforcing important dimensions such as the role of frequency of donation on donor health and elaborates on ways to ensure greater European strategic autonomy on SoHO.
Peter O’Leary, EBA’s Executive Director, said: “The rapporteur and shadows did a very good job at reinforcing important aspects of the Commission’s proposal in the interests of donors, patients, and indeed all European citizens.”
EBA is now calling on all political groups to get behind this report and adopt it in its current form in the plenary vote in September.
