On December 9th, the European Blood Alliance (EBA) presented the “Implementation of Whole Blood for Transfusion” webinar, supported by the EBA Innovation and New Products Working Group. The event was a great success, with 160 attendees from 43 countries joining to hear about and discuss issues related to the implementation of whole blood both in the blood bank and in the clinic.
The webinar featured presentations on the clinical use of whole blood in Norway and the data needed for blood collectors to supply whole blood (England). This was followed by a panel discussion of experts from 6 countries, who addressed the important aspects of the practical implementation of whole blood for transfusion, and provided an opportunity for attendees to ask questions.
We are pleased to announce that the webinar had a worldwide reach, with attendees from countries such as the USA, Singapore, Haiti, Nigeria, Morocco, Panama, Turkey, Peru, Brazil, India, Uruguay, Argentina, and Saudi Arabia.
In terms of next steps, the EBA Innovation and New Products Working Group will review comments and feedback received from participants and incorporate them into a guideline for the implementation of whole blood transfusion. The group is also considering holding another webinar or workshop in 2023.
We would like to thank all of the attendees and speakers for their participation in the webinar.
For those who were unable to attend or for those who would like to watch the webinar again, the recording of the webinar can be viewed by clicking here.
