EBA statement on European Parliament’s SoHO vote

12 September 2023 – The European Blood Alliance warmly welcomes today’s adoption of the report on the SoHO regulation in the European Parliament. The position adopted today builds on the very good proposal of the European Commission and strengthens some key aspects including the protection of the health and wellbeing of our donors and patients.

The report also introduces a welcomed ambition to work more strategically at national and European level in increasing the resilience and continuity in supply of SoHO, on the basis of the fundamental principle of voluntary non-remunerated donation.

We thank the rapporteur and shadows for their work and dedication to ensure this report met the challenges and needs of the blood supply sector, in the interest of donors, patients and all European citizens.
